VOXEL Enters Independent Watchmaking With the Meridion and Its 12/24 Jumping Display

| 4 min read

VOXEL, a newly founded independent watchmaker combining French design direction with Swiss manufacturing, has opened preorders for its first collection: the Meridion. The watch is built around a proprietary complication VOXEL calls a 12/24 jumping display, a mechanism that changes how the dial presents time twice a day, rather than adding a second time zone or replacing the hands with a jumping numeral disc. It is a specific, verifiable piece of mechanical engineering, and it is also VOXEL's entire opening statement as a brand: one collection, three dial colorways, built on a single case and movement architecture.

Meet the New VOXEL Watches

The Meridion collection consists of one model, the VX01-E, offered in three dial colorways that are otherwise mechanically identical: Charcoal Black, Electric Blue, and Silver Star. Each is priced at 2,850 euros excluding tax on an Integrated 904L Steel and 2,500 euros excluding tax on Alcantara® straps.

VOXEL is producing 300 individually numbered pieces across the three colorways combined, with preorders open since October 1, 2026, and delivery expected in the first quarter of 2027.

What VOXEL Brings to the Jumping-Hour Conversation

Jumping-hour watches have had a genuine resurgence in 2026, with releases spanning Audemars Piguet's Neo Frame, De Bethune's DB25 Digitale, and Fears' Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour among others. VOXEL's Meridion enters that conversation from a different angle: rather than a classical jump hour, where a numbered disc advances once every sixty minutes to display the hour through an aperture, the Meridion keeps conventional sweeping hands and instead changes what the dial's markers mean, twice a day. That distinction matters mechanically and it matters for how the watch is marketed: VOXEL is not presenting the Meridion as a second-time-zone watch or a GMT alternative, but as a legibility-focused reinterpretation of how a single time is displayed across a 24-hour cycle.

Design

The case is 41.4mm in diameter and 45.5mm lug-to-lug, built from 904L stainless steel with a Grade 5 titanium caseback. VOXEL calls the caseback construction its "Reactor module": a structural plate that wraps the movement a full 360 degrees, visible through a double smoked-glass caseback rather than a plain metal cover. The crystal is a domed, antireflective-treated sapphire, and water resistance is rated to 120 metres. Each dial shares a circular-brushed, textured finish at the center, with the three colorways distinguished by dial color and hand treatment: Charcoal Black pairs a textured anthracite center with a blue seconds hand; Electric Blue uses light blue hands against its blue dial; Silver Star has a sunburst, star-textured finish with a blue central hour hand. All three are available on a six-color Alcantara strap lineup or the integrated steel bracelet, continuing a design direction, an integrated bracelet on an otherwise case-and-strap watch, that has become a notable theme across independent watchmaking generally in 2026.

The Mechanics

The Meridion runs on a Soprod Newton P092-based automatic movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 44-hour power reserve, a Swiss base caliber that VOXEL has modified to carry its own complication module rather than a fully in-house movement built from the mainplate up, a distinction worth being precise about rather than implying otherwise.

A classical jumping-hour watch replaces the hour hand with a numbered disc, visible through a small window, that advances or "jumps" instantaneously once every sixty minutes, so the hour reads like a small digital display rather than an analog position. The Meridion's complication works differently. Its hands sweep continuously, exactly as on a conventional automatic watch.

What changes is a luminescent disc behind a ring of twelve cutouts around the dial's center: from roughly 1:00 a.m. to 12:59 p.m. it shows a standard 12-hour scale, and at 1:00 p.m. it switches to 24-hour equivalents (14 through 24) for the rest of the day, reverting at 1:00 a.m. A small sun or moon indicator at 11 o'clock confirms which half of the cycle is active. The result is a watch that answers, at a glance, whether the hour shown is morning or night, a conventional analog dial leaves to the wearer to work out, and one a second GMT hand solves differently, by tracking a separate zone rather than clarifying the current one.

The Three Variants

Meridion - Charcoal Black Dial

A textured anthracite dial center with polished hands and a blue seconds hand for contrast. Pairs most naturally with the darker Alcantara strap colors or the integrated steel bracelet.

Meridion - Electric Blue Dial

A blue textured dial center read against light blue hands. Of the three, this is the colorway VOXEL most frequently shows on the integrated steel bracelet.

VOXEL Meridion Electric Blue Dial

Electric Blue Dial

Meridion - Silver Star Dial

A sunburst-finished silver dial with a star-textured surface and a blue central hour hand. The lightest and most formal-reading of the three.
